ALTERNATIVE EVENT:

A Celebration of Swimming and Community Giving

Unfortunately, the La Jolla Cove 10 Mile Relay has been cancelled this year due to the lifeguard tower construction at the Cove. Although we will all miss the great tradition and fun of the 10 Mile Relay, we are offering FREE ENTRY to next year's 2015 La Jolla Cove 10 Mile Relay (Sunday, September 27) for those of you who wish to join us in an alternative swim relay called the Swim 24Challenge (http://www.swim24.org/) right here in La Jolla on Labor Day weekend, Aug 30-31 at your choice of UCSD Canyonview Aquatics Center or Coggan Aquatics Complex at La Jolla High School. Teams of 12 are filling up to swim around the clock in continuous relay format to raise money to combat childhood drowning. There will be poolside live entertainment through the night, food, sponsor booths, and even team RVs to lounge in.

In return, your entry to next year's La Jolla Cove 10 Mile Relay is free, you get to participate in a unique new event launching here in our backyard, you get the satisfaction of knowing that you have saved a child from drowning, and you can say the lifeguard tower construction didn't entirely ruin all your hard work to train for the cove swim!

If you’re fast, grab some fast friends and set the 24 hour pool relay record! If you’re an age grouper who swims for fun, grab some friends from your club, master’s program, or company and just do it for the experience. Maybe combine the 5-person team you were planning for the La Jolla Cove 10 Mile Relay with another 5-person team and then add two random friends to fill our your 12-person Swim 24Challenge team. But don't worry about finding an entire 12-person team before you sign up. There will be time to fill in the rest of the team, or we will match you with other swimmers if you desire.

Proceeds from your fundraising efforts will go to the San Diego Junior Lifeguard Foundation's, Waterproofing San Diego Initiative, which provides swimming lessons to children who otherwise couldn't afford them. Drowning is the #2 cause of accidental death among children, and the #1 cause of accidental death among minority children and all toddlers. You can change that while having a fun team relay swim experience and earning a free entry into next year's La Jolla Cove 10 Mile Relay!
