What – 1 mile open water swim in the dark on the full moon in August.

This is not a Club sponsored event.

It's that time of year when insane people swim from La Jolla Cove to La Jolla Shores Beach in the dark on the Full moon in August.

All the victims, I mean participants meet at the lifeguard tower at La Jolla Cove at 8:45 for the course talk. At 9:00 pm we will enter the water at the Cove and swim to the 3 bright lights on La Jolla Shores Beach. The swim is just under one mile. Return is your responsibility.

This is a great experience. (If you make it)

Feel free to invite your friends. (or enemies)

Warning – This swim is not for the faint of heart. Sharks have been sighted in the area of the swim. There are NO support people. You may get separated from the main group and find yourself alone in the dark water. Do not do this swim unless you are a strong swimmer and fearless. You may be injured or die.

Not sure about the water temperature so you may need a wetsuit.

You may wear fins if you wish.

No RSVP necessary, just show up.

The La Jolla Cove Swim is an open water swim event that includes a 1-mile swim, 250-meter swim for kids, 3-mile swim, and 4-mile swim.

It is the second oldest open water swim in the United States. It has been run almost exclusively by volunteers and community members. The La Jolla Cove Swim is operated under The Kiwanis Club of La Jolla, a 501(c)3 organization.

All proceeds from this annual swim, which takes place the first Sunday after Labor, will be donated to community organizations such as La Jolla Concerts by the Sea and The Prevent Drowning Foundation of San Diego.

La Jolla Cove 10 Mile Relay (27 Sep 2026)

Come out and get wet with your fellow swimmers as we enjoy La Jolla Shores and the spirit of giving with this unique 10 mile swim event and fundraiser. Organize a team of up to 5 swimmers or swim it solo. Donations are encouraged.

Registration closed for Teams. You can join a team or register as a solo swimmer.

On-line Team Registration will open at TWO (2) separate times:

1. Slots for 70 Teams will open at 12:01AM (midnight), and

2. Slots for an additional 70 Teams will open at 12:01PM (noon).

Solo Swimmer registration open on JULY 15

Entry fee will include T-shirts and swim caps for your team and race day prizes and awards.
